Our History
From a small Christian home established in Cape Town in 1876 to the community of care it is today.
A home that has grown with it's community
For 150 years, the Ladies’ Christian Home has continued to grow and evolve while remaining true to its original purpose of providing a safe, caring home for elderly women. From the original Buckingham House purchased in 1876, the Home expanded over the years through the addition of adjoining properties, the Wandel Street Wing, development along Vrede Street, the Barnet Street Wing and, most significantly, the Fraser Buchanan Frail Care Wing, which opened in 1990. Each addition has helped the Home respond to the changing needs of its residents, creating the community of care that stands today.
